More Turkey: The Road to Cappadocia

Last day in Instanbul: The Hagia Sophia. Maybe not as impressive from the outside as the Blue Mosque, but such a historic building.

So we drove for a couple of days in a rented Fiat Sienna. Sometimes the road was good...and sometimes it kind of went away. Everyone we met along the way was friendly.

Our "cave" pension room. Carved right out of a fairy chimney tufa formation; and $10 a person. We stayed for almost a week.

The scenic shots really lose something. I guess you'll just have to go there yourself. The best way I can describe the region is like Zion Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Mesa Verde, a Bavarian village, and Disneyland, all melded into one. I think some of Star Wars was filmed here.

That is the window of our "cave."

We enjoyed daily hikes, and were sometimes joined by a Dalmation named Spotty who lived at another pension. (No pictures of him here; wouldn't want to make Kismet jealous). This is the kind of thing we saw each day.

The food was good; the fruits and vegetables were bursting with flavor. Here is Jesse squeezing us some fresh orange juice.

Jesse made friends wherever we went. This is his buddy from the carpet store next to our pension. Yes, we did end up buying a couple of carpets.
