Our Spring Break 2001: Turkey (mostly Cappadocia)
Arlee has wanted to go to Cappadocia ever since a park ranger at Mesa Verde told her "if you like it here, you've gotta go to this place in Turkey..."
As far as just a plain enjoyable time in a neat place, Patrick rates this "the best vacation since our honeymoon in Hawaii."
We rented a car; the freedom and relaxed
pace made for a great week.

was great for history and architecture. It was good to see a
place both of us had taught about (Constantinople). Wow! |
We were lured into a carpet shop -- the prices were crazy (the proprietor didn't seem to understand we lived in the Middle East), but we did get to take a nice picture of a weaver. |

Jesse is as big a fan of carpet shopping as mom and dad. He also liked the weather being cold enough to give him a chance to wear his wool hat. |

I've seen this picture in so many art and history textbooks...a famous mosaic from the Hagia Sophia. It was moving to be in the building. |
