Semester course: .5 credits (Fine arts)
Prerequisite: consent of instructor
This course is repeatable for credit
Welcome (back) to choir!
This is an PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE class--our success together depends
upon each of our individual contributions.
We will work on individual vocal techniques: music reading, accurate
pitch, vowel quality, breath support and control, diction--how
to SING WELL as indiviuals.
And, we will work together on choral ensemble skills: INTONATION
(PITCH), BALANCE, BLEND (VOWEL UNIFORMITY), AND PRECISION (DICTION
AND RHYTHMIC ACCURACY).
We will perform music in genres ranging from Renaissance madrigals
to rock musicals, with an emphasis on the immediate practical
application of skills.
Your grade will be based upon:
1/3 = REHEARSAL SKILLS (behavior / contribution during rehearsal)
1/3 = EVALUATIONS (demonstrated effort and growth as a singer)
1/3 = PERFORMANCE (attendance at required rehearsals and performances)
For your planning, performances are slated as follows (but are subject to additions, cancellations and changes):
Week of Dec. 1-5: Holiday Concert
Week of Mar. 9-13: Spring Concert
Apr. 23-25: All-Kingdom Band and Choir at Dhahran Academy
Week of May 18-22: Final Concert, venue TBA
June 6: High School Graduation
Extra rehearsals (after school/Thu) possible; TBA
Additional performances may be added.
Subject to change.
I'm excited about our continuing choir at Dhahran Academy, and
about our potential! Let's work together this year to make some
wonderful music.
Yours in music,
Patrick Gross
