ALL-KINGDOM BAND 2002

April 23,24,25 (Tue, Wed, Thu)

Dhahran Academy

Dhahran, Saudi Arabia

AUDITION INFORMATION

This year's auditions (for AKB 2002) will use SET 1.

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS for DIRECTORS

  1. Tape only one kind of instrument on a single tape. For example, all clarinets on one tape, saxophones (alto, tenor and bari) on one tape, tec. All percussion instruments may be included on one tape.
  2. Please clearly label your tapes with the name of your school and instrument that is playing on that tape. Remember, only one kind of instrument per tape.
  3. On a separate sheet, type (no hand writing, please) all of your students in the order that they play on the tape. Teir name, instrument, grade, and sex should appear on this list. If possible, please send the list on a disk. The format should be: ALL CAPS, LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, INSTRUMENT, GRADE, GENDER. You can use ClarisWorks (Mac) or Microsoft Excel (PC). Third option, e-mail the list to patrickmgross@yahoo.com. The list is to ensure that we know who is playing, just in case we can't clearly understand their name on the audition tape.
  4. Use quality cassette tapes only. Quality equipment with good conditions in the taping process are requested.
  5. Each student at the beginning of his/her audition, should say the following: "My name is_____. I play the _____. I am in the _____ grade at (name of your school)."
  6. Do not stop the tape during the audition (it is OK to do more than one "take" if you wish, but send a complete single take of the audition, not a patched "best of...").
  7. Play the selections as they appear on the audition sheet. Tempo is at the discretion of the player, and is considered along with accuracy, in the evaluation of the audition.
  8. Fill out one instrumental recommendation for each student (print multiple copies of the form). Under "Comments," please include the skills of your percussionists such as mallet skills, timpani tuning skills, etc. Does the baritone read treble or bass clef? Does your flutist also play piccolo? Include any other information about that particular student that we should know. This is important, because you know your student's overall capabilities better than we do. Staple the forms in the order of the student audition on the tape.
  9. Tapes must reach the host school (Dhahran Academy) before the end of the business day Wednesday, December 12, 2001. Tapes received after the deadline will be considered only on a space available basis.

These are GIF files which you can open with a graphics program like Photoshop, or paste into a word processing program, and then print up. You can also print directly from your browser--probably best to use 50% scale, to get it to fit on one page (but it depends on your set-up; experiment!)

At risk of stating the obvious: if it is not a LINK, it is not there, yet. Check back.

Directors, if you would like the actual Sibelius.sib file, or a EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) file, of any of these materials, e-mail me. Hard copies are on the way to your schools as of Sept. 30.
